Hello everyone.
Is anybody sick of the unseasonably wet weather? Up here in Belfast it has done nothing but rain this past four weeks. We had better weather in March than now. Not really great weather for selling sandals and toeposts!
Anyway enough ranting about the weather. The only thing that we are selling plenty of at the minute is wellies and especially hunter wellies. These wellies in recent years have become more of a fashion statement than a practical wellington, but in saying that they still preform the job of a wellington more than well. Giving protection from muck and dirt while still keeping feet warm and most importantly bone dry is the primary function of a wellington boot. The Hunter wellington does all of the above with the addition of style.
Hunter boots came in to being in 1856 when Mr Henry Lee Norris an American Entrepreneur arrived in Scotland and setup the North British rubber company which would later become the Hunter Boot Company.
Over the course of the following years they experienced large growth. In world war one they produced 1,185,036 pairs of boots designed to deal with flooded trenched. Again in world war two the company was again asked to make boots for the armed services again.
In 1977 having supplied the Royal household for many years Hunter was awarded a royal warrant from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, followed in 1986 by another Royal warrant from HM The Queen in recognition for keeping some very important feet dry.
In 2008 Hunter relocated to Edinburgh and outsourced its manufacturing to europe and the far east in order to remain competitive.
We at donaghys are proud stockists of hunter wellingtons. We also stock hunter wellington socks a perfect addition that will keep your feet nice and dry.
We will do another post on hunter wellingtons soon. The way the weather is going it could be sooner rather than later.
Bye for now.
